History

IGNOU Regional Centre for coordinating University Operations in Karnataka and Goa was established in 1987 at Bangalore. It was formally inaugurated by the then Education Minister, Government of Karnataka, Shri Jeevraj Alva on 1st February, 1989. Till September 1996 it was housed in the annexe of the Directorate of Collegiate Education (Govt. of Karnataka) premises just adjacent to Vidhana Soudha. It moved to the spacious building in September, 1996 at No.293, 39th Cross, 8th Block, Jayanagar, Bangalore - 560 070.

 

The Regional Centre has Four major functions :

 

  • Promoting and developing Open Learning System in general and IGNOU in particular.
  • Offering IGNOU Programmes through a network of centres.
  • Providing and developing an efficient and effective student support network in the region.
  • Providing an effective liaison between the government, institutions and learning public of the region on the one hand and the IGNOU on the other.
